The New Faculty Teaching Academy is a free and optional program designed to enhance teaching skills. The course is divided into three weekly modules, each focusing on crucial aspects of effective teaching in higher education.

This asynchronous online training opportunity will run from July 21 to Aug. 11 and is tailored for faculty members with zero to three years of teaching experience. 

Modules
Organization and Planning: This module provides critical lessons regarding instructional design including course design basics, syllabus creation and course scheduling. Participants will also learn critical MSU policies and procedures for teachers and complete the module by preparing their course syllabus to ensure preparation for teaching in the upcoming semester. 

Engagement: In this module, participants will learn core classroom strategies that promote student engagement. Topics covered include effective presentation techniques, active learning strategies and managing classroom dialogue. Participants will complete the module by creating a plan for an early class period that is focused, effective and engaging. 

Communication: The final module focuses on building rapport and effective communication. Participants will gain insights into various topics, such as communicating expectations, providing constructive feedback and efficient grading practices. The module concludes with creating a comprehensive communication plan to establish strong connections. 

Recognition
Upon successful completion of all assignments, participants will be awarded the New Faculty Teaching Academy badge, recognizing dedication to continual improvement of teaching skills. Additionally, these achievements will be recognized at the annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon in May.
